 "UNICEF employees regularly fly first-class"
FALSE. TO EXPLAIN: A READER who used to work in international development swears that he regularly saw UNICEF (see profile) employees flying first-class (while, he says, other aid charities flew economy). When we phoned up, UNICEF had a simple explanation.
If you've flown with British Airways you can't have failed to notice their "Change for Good" program, where they take your loose change and give it to projects funded by... UNICEF.
The fact is that BA is a corporate sponsor of UNICEF and when seats are available in Business Class (never First, we're told) and coach class is looking a bit busy, UNICEF employees may get bumped up. And why not? Your donations aren't paying for the upgrade.
