A baby We’ve been on the lookout for some more interns recently and, on Wednesday, we met some of the very nice and very clever people who applied.

The Intelligent Giving interns are a very big deal.  This is because they’re the ones that do much of our most important work: our charity profiles. It’s not too much to say that we rely on them for our very existence.

And just to prove how important our volunteers are, I’ve bashed out a few extremely geeky statistics.  In July, August and September this year, interns worked 56% of the total hours spent in the IG office.  And during that time, they evaluated over 200 set of charity reports and accounts, undertook 15 pieces of research and updated innumerable basic charity profiles. Amazing stuff!

We’re incredibly grateful to our interns for agreeing to give up their time to help us.  And, hopefully, there’ll be some new faces in the office in the next few weeks.

Eagle-eyed readers of our website might have noticed this week that all our charity profiles now link to the project giving website, The Big Give.  There were several reasons why we decided to do this, the main two being:
  • We want to give the public as much information about charities as possible.
That’s why our profiles have always linked to the Charity Commission (we love the new register!), Guidestar, and the organizations’ website.  We added The Big Give because it shows a different side of a charity: potential supporters can get up close to its work and see, in detail, how their money might be spent.
  • We want donors to give more money to charity.
Some of our most critical commenters on the blog might sometimes doubt this, but we really do want to see donations increase. And, with so many opportunities on offer to give to projects directly, there’s clearly a lot of excitement about this new way of fundraising. We thought our profiles ought to reflect this enthusiasm as well and The Big Give, with over 4,700 organizations on its books, seemed like a good place to start.

Finally, we’ve had two rehearsals this week for our first webinar - ‘The internet and fundraising: threat or opportunity?’ - and it’s shaping up very nicely.  It will be broadcast on Tuesday 4th November at 3pm and is free to attend. Find our more and register here.
