Is this the stupidest charity advert ever?

Adam Rothwell - Friday, June 6, 2008

This rotten advert, which is supposed to raise money the victims of the Burmese cyclone, has been running on American TV. It may also cross the Atlantic to the UK. I do hope not.

The website it links to is pretty rubbish too. Instead of imploring us to help the victims of Cyclone Nargis, MTV (the outfit behind this sorry effort) would rather we watch the advert. Again. I am speechless.

Thanks to Donor Power Blog and AdGabber for spotting this.

First I was expecting it to star Bruce Willis, then I was reminded of a Japanese manga cartoon and then the music put me to sleep. After I woke up with a keyboard impression on my face I felt ill and put my lunch to one side.

WTF MATE!

I'm not impressed with the use of predominantly nuclear bombers in the ad - are they implying something more drastic should be done to support the peace-loving people?

OK, so if we don't even know what is advert is for - well, I think that's pretty damning in itself!

I didn't see any reference to the cyclone actually. The seems to be more a response to the popular uprising last year. I wouldn't say the web site is rubbish, only that it seems to have no strategic objectives!
