This non-evangelising Christian body - formerly The Missions to Seamen - helps sailors in 300 ports around the world, giving practical and spiritual support. Staff and volunteers visit ships and also offer local advice to sailors in land-based R&R centres. 2006 marked the charity's 150th anniversary and with a growing income it looks set to keep riding the waves.
