If it weren't for this member-based organisation, the country's canals may well have been filled in and built upon 50 years ago. It stopped that happening and continues - with obvious success - to support the canals' boat-owning communities, and to lobby, educate and restore, creating an interesting mix of historic, environmental and social benefits. A very clear annual report suggests dedicated effort.
