A WADE THROUGH WAFFLE

The only national museums group based entirely outside London attracts almost 1.7 million visitors a year to its eight venues and provides education to many students. Although visitor numbers exceeded expectations to hit record levels in 2006/7, the number of socially disadvantaged people attending fell well short of target. The annual report is verbose and uninformative. Massive reserves are due to the building of the new Museum of Liverpool due to open in 2010.
