Understanding this profile

BEAR WITH US. We’ll keep this simple.

Everything in this profile is based on the charity's annual report. We haven't talked to the charity and we've only skimmed its website.

The headline and write-up
We write this based on what the annual report said, and how it compares to other reports. It's not meant to be comprehensive - more of a guide to the interesting stuff, and an indication of how forthcoming they've been.
  • If the charity is well-known we will try to correct any misunderstandings or rumours
  • If it is not well known we'll try to outline what it does
  • If aspects of its annual report are good or bad, we'll say so
  • If it's similar to other charities, we'll explain how
  • If it's unique, we'll explain how
  • We'll have fun with it if we think it won't detract from the message. You'd fall asleep otherwise.
The facts and figures
These are based on:
  • What we know will interest you
  • What we think you should take into account
  • Stuff that is easily comparable from charity to charity
A final comment
The best way to judge a charity is by the long-term effects of its work.
Instead what you get here is an indication of:
  • How well-organised the charity is
  • Whether or not it keeps track of what it's doing
  • How confident it is to tell the world about its work, and
  • How highly it regards its donors
It's the most information you'll get about a charity without working for it or being helped by it. And it's a much better way of judging charities than from their adverts and mailshots.
